A heat pump is comprised of two components - indoor and outdoor. The indoor part, or air handler, looks similar to a gas furnace. The outdoor portion resembles a central air conditioning system.
A heat pump improves the quality of air in your home by pumping heat inside during cold months and out when it is warmer. Since heat pumps use electricity instead of a heat source or hot surface they are quite safe. Heat pumps are also cost-effective since electricity is more efficient to run than electric or oil furnaces.
